THE OFFICE
TRY GETTING YOUR COWORKERS ON BOARDPractice the three R's: first reduce how much you use, then reuse what you can, and then recycle the rest. Then, dispose of what's left in the most environmentally friendly way. Read the tips below and explore what steps you can take towards going zero!
SIMPLE STEPS FOR THE OFFICE
- SWITCH OFF THE PHOTOCOPIER: A photocopier left on overnight uses enough energy to produce over 1,500 copies.
- TURN IN, TURN OFF: Lighting an office overnight wastes enough energy to heat water for 1,000 cups of tea.
- ENABLE POWER SAVING MODE ON IDLE EQUIPMENT: Computers, copiers, fax machines and other gadgets use lots of juice. Suggest enabling power saving modes on these necessities, and implementing a policy of "turn off your machines" when employees are done for the night.
- TAKE THE STAIRS: If possible take the stairs instead of using the elevator. Not only does it save energy, but its good exercise too!
- LUNCH TIME: Bringing lunch to work in reusable containers is likely the greenest (and healthiest) way to eat at work. Getting delivery and takeout almost inevitably end with a mountain of packaging waste. If you do go out for lunch, try biking or walking instead of driving.
